When anxiety makes work harder than it needs to be.

Practical, evidence-based support for professionals managing anxiety, worry, and workplace stress.

Registered psychologist providing anxiety support in Brisbane CBD.

Anxiety at work isn’t just about feeling stressed.

For many professionals, anxiety isn’t about panic attacks or an obvious fear. It’s subtler than that — and often harder to recognise because it can look a lot like conscientiousness, drive, or just working hard.

It might be the constant checking and rechecking of your work. The difficulty switching off at the end of the day. The feeling that no matter how much you achieve, there’s always something to worry about. Or a quiet, persistent sense that things are about to go wrong — even when the evidence says otherwise.

For busy professionals in Brisbane and beyond, anxiety can quietly affect performance, relationships at work, and the ability to enjoy what you’ve worked hard to build. When it starts to interfere with how you’re functioning, it’s worth getting some support.

How anxiety tends to show up for professionals

Constant worry & overthinking

Racing thoughts, worst-case scenarios, and difficulty quieting your mind — even when things are going well.

Difficulty switching off

Lying awake replaying conversations, or finding it hard to leave work mentally even when you’ve left physically.

Procrastination and avoidance

Putting off tasks that feel overwhelming, or avoiding situations that trigger that sense of dread — even important ones.

Perfectionism and self-doubt

Setting impossibly high standards, feeling like nothing is ever quite good enough, or second-guessing decisions long after they’re made.

Physical symptoms

Tension headaches, a tight chest, trouble sleeping, or a general sense of being on edge that doesn’t quite go away.

Trouble being present

Finding it hard to focus in meetings, conversations, or even at home — because your mind is always somewhere else.

Anxiety in professionals often goes unrecognised for a long time — partly because the drive to achieve can mask the symptoms of anxiety, and partly because those with high standards often just push on when things are tough. If you’ve been managing it quietly, that takes a toll.

Anxiety can show up in specific ways that have their own dynamics. If any of these feels more relevant to what you’re experiencing, there’s more specific information available.

Social Anxiety

If anxiety is particularly triggered by social or professional interactions — presentations, meetings, networking, or the fear of being judged or evaluated by others.

Performance Anxiety

If anxiety is most prominent in high-stakes situations — important presentations, critical conversations, or moments where you feel your competence is being assessed.

Sleeping Difficulties

If anxiety is significantly affecting your sleep — difficulty switching off, lying awake with racing thoughts, or waking during the night.

What we work on together

  1. Understand what’s driving it
We explore the patterns behind your anxiety — what triggers it, what keeps it going, and how it’s been affecting your work and life. Understanding the cycle is the first step to breaking it.
  2. Change your relationship with anxious thoughts
Rather than trying to eliminate anxiety (which rarely works), ACT helps you hold anxious thoughts differently — so they have less power over what you do and how you perform.
  3. Build practical strategies
You’ll leave sessions with tools you can actually use — techniques for managing worry, improving focus, making decisions under pressure, and setting boundaries that protect your energy.
  4. Develop sustainable ways to perform
The goal isn’t just to feel less anxious. It’s to build a way of working that doesn’t constantly generate anxiety in the first place — one that’s sustainable over the long term.

FAQs

I offer a forward-focused, evidence-based approach that works on understanding how anxiety is showing up in your life now — and building practical strategies to manage it going forward. Rather than spending extended time exploring past experiences, the focus is on what’s driving your anxiety in the present, how it’s affecting your work and life, and what genuinely helps. For anxiety in a professional context — the performance pressure, perfectionism, difficulty switching off — this tends to be a strong fit.

No referral is needed to book an intake call or start sessions. If you’d like to access the Medicare rebate, you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP — but you can book and start without one. Many clients arrange the MHTP after their first session once they’ve decided to continue.

That depends on your goals and what you’re working on. Some people come with a specific challenge or decision and find clarity in a handful of sessions. Others prefer ongoing support to build momentum, develop skills, and work through multiple areas over time.

In your first session, we’ll discuss your goals and work out an approach that suits where you’re at — whether that’s something targeted and short-term, or a longer-term plan. There’s no set formula, just a structure that works for you.

As we work together, I can provide guidance on what frequency and duration makes sense based on your progress and goals.

Yes, and this is a common question. Many people who come to see me are managing well on the surface but carrying a lot internally. Anxiety doesn’t have to be debilitating to be worth addressing. If it’s affecting your sleep, your enjoyment of work, your relationships, or your ability to be present — even quietly — there’s may be value in developing strategies to manage it differently.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based, mindfulness-informed approach to managing difficult thoughts and emotions. Rather than trying to eliminate anxious thoughts — which often backfires — ACT helps you change your relationship with them, so they have less influence over your behaviour. It’s practical, skills-based, and well-suited to the kind of anxiety that builds up in professional environments.
