Career Change and Transitions can be both exciting and unsettling

Whether you’re feeling stuck, trying to work out your next move, or navigating a significant transition — the internal experience of career change often goes unacknowledged.

It might be a gradual realisation or a sudden sense that something needs to change — even if you can’t quite name what. For some people it’s the exhaustion of a role that no longer works for them. For others it’s getting ready for a career shift, looking at the next step and feeling less confident than they expected.

Whatever brings you here, career challenges rarely stay contained to work. The uncertainty affects how you sleep, how you feel about yourself, and how you show up in the rest of your life. Getting clear about where you’re headed and rediscovering your sense of confidence can benefit more than just your career.

Professionals Reach out to me when:

Feeling stuck, bored, or burned out

You’ve been doing the same thing for a while and something has shifted. The role that once engaged you no longer does. You’re not sure if you’re burnt out, bored, or simply ready for something new — but you know something needs to change. Getting clear about your internal experiences may help guide what needs to shift.

Considering or navigating a career change

You’ve reached the point where your current path no longer feels like the right fit. You might be in the process of making a change or getting ready to. You want to get clear on your values and strengths, explore what’s possible, and make decisions you feel confident about — rather than ones driven by frustration or fear.

Managing a career transition

Transitions come in many forms — stepping into your first leadership role, moving into a more senior position, preparing for retirement, or navigating redundancy. Some transitions are chosen; others aren’t. Either way, navigating them well requires more than a practical plan — the psychological side of change matters just as much.

Neurodivergent professionals

If you’re neurodivergent, career decisions often involve more than just weighing up options. How you’re wired affects what kind of work sustains you, how you make decisions, and what alignment actually looks and feels like for you. Understanding how you think and work can be the first step in finding a career that helps you feel energised, not drained.

Career challenges are rarely just about yourcareer. What’s happening professionally connects to confidence, identity, psychological wellbeing, and the way you show up. Working across all of these areas — along with the practical decisions — can help create real shifts.

Career challenges often connect to other difficulties that have their own dynamics. If any of these feels more relevant to what you’re experiencing, there’s more specific information available.

Burnout

If what feels like a problem with your career might actually be exhaustion. It’s hard to make clear decision when you’re not sure whether you need a change or simply need to recover first.

Confidence & Self-Worth

If career uncertainty feels more like self-doubt — questioning your abilities, struggling with imposter syndrome, or feeling like you will never be ready for the next step.

Performance Anxiety

If career transitions are bringing up anxiety about being evaluated, stepping into a new role, or high-stakes moments where your competence feels like it’s on the line.

What we work on together

  1. Get clear about what’s actually going on
Career dissatisfaction, burnout, and boredom can feel similar. Before making any decisions, we work out what’s actually driving the desire for change.
  2. Clarify your values, strengths, and what you’re looking for
Understanding what genuinely matters to you and what you’re good at provides a compass for decision-making that doesn’t rely on comparison with others or external validation.
  3. Explore your options with more confidence
Whether you’re considering a specific change or want to explore your options, we work through the possibilities in a focused way — reducing the overwhelm and building confidence.
  4. Navigate the transition itself
Making a decision is one thing. Moving through a transition, practically and psychologically is another. We work on both: the plan and the internal experience of making change.

FAQs

Working with a registered psychologist means the support is grounded in psychological science and regulated by AHPRA, which provides assurance that what I offer is evidence-based. More practically, career challenges rarely exist in isolation. They’re often entangled with confidence, anxiety, burnout, or identity.. I can work across all of these area, which tends to produce more meaningful and lasting change than career planning in isolation. You can read more about my approach to career transitions in this blog post.

No referral is needed to book an appointment with me. You can get started by booking an intake call through the client portal.

If you’d like to access a Medicare rebate for your sessions, you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. It’s worth noting that your GP will need to provide a referral as part of this process.

It depends on what you’re working on. Some people need brief and focused support to find clarity. Others are navigating something more complex — a significant transition, entangled confidence and career issues, or neurodivergent-specific challenges — and benefit from longer-term support. In your first session, we’ll work out what makes sense for your situation. There’s no package to commit to and no set formula.

It matters in terms of what we focus on first, but you don’t need to have that figured out before getting in touch. Part of what the initial sessions are for is working out what’s actually going on — burnout, boredom and career dissatisfaction can all feel similar but respond to different kinds of support. I help you get clear about what’s actually going on so we can tailor the support to what you need.

Yes, and it’s worth being explicit about this. Standard career frameworks often assume a neurotypical way of working, thinking, and making decisions. If you’ve found that career advice doesn’t quite fit how your mind works, that’s something I work with directly. I provide career support that’s genuinely built around how you think and work.

Yes. Navigating your first leadership role, stepping into a more senior position, or managing the psychological challenges that come with increased responsibility are things I work with regularly. The confidence, self-doubt, communication, and identity challenges that come with leadership transitions are well-suited to this kind of support.
