When low mood makes work harder than it needs to be.

Practical, evidence-based support for professionals experiencing low mood and loss of motivation.

Registered psychologist providing support for depression in Brisbane City.

Depression in professionals often goes unrecognised.

It doesn’t always look like what people expect. For many professionals, depression shows up not as sadness but as a flatness — a loss of interest, a sense of going through the motions, difficulties finding meaning in work that used to matter.

Many professionals can maintain their performance for a long time while quietly struggling. The same drive and discipline that built their career can also mask the signs — from others, and sometimes from themselves.

If something has felt off for a while — less motivation, less enjoyment, less like yourself — it’s worth paying attention to. Depression is manageable, and getting support earlier makes a genuine difference.

How Depression tends to show up for professionals

Persistent low mood

Constantly feeling sad, flat, or irritable. It doesn’t lift, even on days when things are going well.

Loss of motivation

Tasks and goals that once felt meaningful now feel like obligations. Your drive has disappeared.

Difficulty concentrating

Trouble thinking clearly, making decisions, or staying focused on work.

Withdrawal

Pulling back from colleagues, friends, or activities that used to bring enjoyment.

Fatigue

A tiredness that sleep doesn’t fully fix — physical, emotional, and mental.

Negative self-talk

A persistent critical inner voice. Feeling inadequate, behind, or like you’re failing.

Depression doesn’t always require a dramatic event or obvious reason. Instead, you might notice a sense that objectively life is great, but you can’t quite understand why it doesn’t feel that way. Often this disconnect can be hard to understand.

You might also be looking for

Depression can overlap with other challenges that have their own dynamics. If any of these feels more relevant to what you’re experiencing, there’s more specific information available.

Burnout

If what you’re experiencing feels connected to prolonged work pressure or exhaustion — and you’re wondering whether burnout might be part of what’s going on.

Sleeping Difficulties

If exhaustion and depression are significantly affecting your sleep — difficulty switching off, lying awake, or waking early wondering how you’ll make it through the day.

Confidence & Self-Worth

Depression has eroded the belief you had in yourself or your value — making it hard to trust yourself, believe in your own judgement, or feel like you have much to offer.

What we work on together

  1. Understand what’s been contributing
We explore the thoughts, pressures, and circumstances that have lead to your low mood — without getting stuck there.
  2. Reconnect with what matters
Depression often involves disconnection from the things that give life meaning. Gradually reconnecting with the things you value is an important step.
  3. Behavioural strategies that build momentum
Small, practical actions that start to shift mood and rebuild a sense of control — even before things feel better emotionally.
  4. Manage difficult thoughts and emotions
Tools to gain some distance from uncomfortable feelings and unhelpful thought patterns that maintain low mood.

FAQs

I provide a forward-focused, evidence-based approach that works on understanding how depression is showing up in your life now — and building practical strategies to manage it. Rather than trying to change too much all at once, we work on taking small, gradual steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Gradually, you’ll start to reconnect with the things important to you.

No referral is needed to book an appointment with me. You can get started by booking an intake call through the client portal.

If you’d like to access a Medicare rebate for your sessions, you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. It’s worth noting that your GP will need to provide a referral as part of this process.

That depends on your goals and what you’re working on. Some people come with a specific challenge or decision and find clarity in a handful of sessions. Others prefer ongoing support to build momentum, develop skills, and work through multiple areas over time.

In your first session, we’ll discuss your goals and work out an approach that suits where you’re at — whether that’s something targeted and short-term, or a longer-term plan. There’s no set formula, just a structure that works for you.

As we work together, I can provide guidance on what frequency and duration makes sense based on your progress and goals.

Yes, and this is a common question. Many people who come to see me are managing well on the surface but carrying a lot internally. depression doesn’t have to be debilitating to be worth addressing. If it’s affecting your sleep, your engagement with work, your relationships, or your ability to be present — even quietly — there’s may be value in developing strategies to manage it differently.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based, mindfulness-informed approach to managing difficult thoughts and emotions. Rather than trying to eliminate uncomfortable thought and emotions — ACT helps you change your relationship with them, so they have less influence over your behaviour. It’s practical, skills-based, and well-suited to many of the challenges people experience in professional environments.
